| Outreach Ministries
Historically, LUMC has been on the cutting edge of social, political and religious outreach. Working together to build and maintain a society of peace and justice, we have joined with local and international organizations in active faith and love.
Financial support provided through our New England Conference Mission Shares enable a wide array of health, education, agricultural, evangelistic and social justice programs around the world.
La Borgoña, Nicaragua
We participate in a covenant relationship with La Iglesia de Cristo in La Borgoña, Nicaragua. Working with this community, we strive not only to support one another with our resources but also through our prayer, our presence, and our service.
Through the years, various members of our congregation have traveled to Nicaragua to visit and strengthen our partnership with this community. We have provided support allowing them to build a water processor; renovate their church building; sustain their elementary school; establish sewing and computer training programs; and give scholarships to students to pursue high school and post-secondary education. Though we are separated in distance, we are present in Love.
Roxbury Food Cupboard & Lexington Food Pantry
Each month we contribute money and food to the Roxbury Food Cupboard and the Lexington Food Pantry. We serve at the Lexington Food Pantry on the last Saturday of the month, caring for many people in our community.
Alternative Christmas Market
Each year, we support a number of local and international organizations through our Alternative Christmas Market, where we sell holiday gifts such as fair trade coffee, crafts from Nicaragua, and more. Past beneficiaries of this effort include The Heifer Project, Lexington Food Pantry, Doctors without Borders, Smile Train, and Rosie's Place.
Social Justice Endowment Fund
The Social Justice Endowment Fund, established as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of our church, supports local, national and international ministries that address issues of social justice.
