With joy we invite you to the inaugural service of celebration and
blessing for Cambridge Welcoming Ministries on Sunday afternoon, September
29th at 5:00 P.M. at Grace United Methodist Church, Cambridge.
Cambridge Welcoming Ministries is a new congregation in the New England
Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church specifically designed to
minister with those who have been historically excluded from the Church.
This new ministry strives to create a community of faith that embodies a progressive
theology of radical openness with those most marginalized in society; recognizing
that currently within the United Methodist Church gay, lesbian, bisexual,
and transgendered (GLBT) persons are the only persons specifically prohibited
from full participation in the life of the church, and therefore, among those
most marginalized. Cambridge Welcoming Ministries seeks to reach out
to the GLBT community in greater Boston to proclaim God’s love for them,
and to provide a ministry with them that is safe, open and affirming, while
at the same time ministering with progressive, straight allies who are searching
for a more liberal, inclusive congregation within the United Methodist Church.
Marilyn Alexander, Executive Director of the Reconciling Ministries Network,
will be present, along with representatives from Reconciling congregations
throughout the New England area, to join in this inaugural worship service.
As one of the Reconciling UMC congregations in the New England Annual Conference,
you are invited to bring a group to participate in this service of celebration
to signify your solidarity with this important new ministry. Our goal is
to fill our sanctuary with over two hundred people, so bring as many as you
can, and come and celebrate with us in this joyous event. Limited free
street parking is available.
A light supper will be served at the reception to follow.
“Cambridge Welcoming Ministries is an open and affirming,
progressive faith community dedicated to proclaiming God’s love for all
with gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, and straight persons.”
