From the Pastor's Study

September is Open House Month for the United Methodist Churches across our nation.

“Open Hearts,
Open Minds,
          Open Doors”

is the theme of the national churches’ advertising campaign that will hit the airwaves starting in September. Let us use the denomination’s public relations efforts and invite friends, neighbors, and relatives to join us for Worship, Sunday School and Fellowship this fall at the Lexington United Methodist Church which is indeed a United Methodist congregation with Open Hearts, Open Minds, and Open Doors.

It is an exciting time for Lexington UMC. A new Sunday School curriculum (for Pre-K through Grade 2) called Godly Play will be inaugurated this fall. “Invitational, creative and interactive” are words that describe this worship-based, Bible-Story-telling curriculum. Why not invite families with young children to join us? The Godly Play Class is scheduled Sunday mornings from 9:20 - 10:30 during worship as is our Grade 3-5 class. Nursery care will also be available during the worship service.

At 11:00 AM, following our Fellowship Time, childcare will be available for those who wish to stay for Adult Sunday School. Middle School and Sr. High youth will also meet from 11 - noon for Sunday School. Relevant and engaging topics have been planned for adults. Middle School Youth will use the Whole People of God curriculum to stimulate discussion; and Senior Youth will engage in a Disciple Bible Study for youth!

On the first Sunday of each month, we will gather as church family for an intergenerational worship experience that is being planned to meet the interests of the youngest to the eldest among us! Children and youth and adults of all ages will inspire one another as we learn about being disciples of Jesus Christ.

So, Come and Worship! Come and Study! Come and Bring a Friend along, too! In this 50th Anniversary year of our congregation, let us live the vision that we’ve embraced . . . to be a church where everyone is included and everyone is in service!

With joy and anticipation,

Rev. Susan Morrison
