Task Force Preparing Building Blocks for Celebration:
Needs Your Help

Twenty-seven members of our LUMC congregation are contributing their talents and time to create a 50th Anniversary Celebration that is befitting the legacy of this church.  Our task force started with three in the early summer of 2000 and continues to add other members.  This Celebration is more of a process than a three-day celebration weekend, May 3-5, 2002.  We are rediscovering ourselves, documenting our history, assembling as much of our family who made that history possible, and creating commemorations to mark this milestone for some time to come.

We welcome your contributions. We know our congregation is rich with diverse talents that can enhance the process and results.

In this article I will simply identify the variety of items in our plan and acknowledge the people who are immersed in bringing this celebration together. Each month a member of the Task Force will elaborate in this newsletter what a given sub task force (STF) is contributing.

As we work on preparing for this special celebration we are constantly rediscovering from which we came (our church) and how that bears on our present and future.

Historical Documentation – Smoki Fraser is this group’s coordinator and is joined by Betty Lehr, Jane Hogan, Carol Phelan, and Dorothy Schramm.  They are writing our history, preparing a video presentation, and synthesizing documents for our Book of Remembrance located in our Narthex. Laurie and Marty Fahey are contributing to the production of the video.

Weekend Program – The Acting Chair is Bob Rings. Cheri Robinson is the coordinator of our May 3, Friday night Fun Night with dancing, food, and other activities.  Bob Rings is the lead for the May 4, Saturday Night Celebration of our history and those who created our history. Dale Brunelle is managing our catered meal for 200+/- expected witnesses/participants. Most of our historical documentation and commemorations will be acknowledged, and there are many in the congregation involved with these efforts. Rev. Susan is the coordinator for our Sunday Worship which will include our Bishop and District Superintendent contributing to our service and a host of former pastors as guests. A brunch and closing program including more history and commemorations will follow the service.

Aesthetics – Jean Santelmann is the chair and is assisted by Shawna Johnston and Cindy Stander both of whom have created the two logos (of our church and global outreach) that will be on our invitations, stationery, writing pens, and any other item we feel is appropriate for our celebration.  Jean has developed ideas for decorations for each event.

Commemorations – Ken Kreutziger is the Chair for the following efforts:

Congregational Picture and Congregational Pictorial Directory – Paul Linton – Lead.
Commemorative Memento Writing Pens with a celebration logo – Jean Santelmann – Lead.
Commissioned Anthem by John Kramer and New Choir Robe Stoles with custom monogram – Carol Phelan – Lead.
Proposed Time Capsule – Brian Johnston – Lead, this still is being explored.
Prayer Garden – Betty Lehr – Lead.
Two items the Congregation will vote on 10/10:
1. Proposed Social Justice Endowment Fund – Al Landers and Keith Herndon Leads.
2. Proposed Justice Pavilion – Ken Kreutziger – Lead.

Guest Relations – Audrey Hale is the Chair supported by Janet Melcher, Dorothy McLeod, Muriel Landers, and soon to join Dorothy Schramm. They have been preparing the mailing list for invitations. There are 12 groups of potential “guests”. Some of these may need special accommodations.
