November 2003 Worship

November 2 – All Saints Sunday
Service of Word and Table
Please bring a picture of (a) "saint(s)" in your life.  They will adorn our communion table.

  We will remember the saints of our lives throughout this worship service and give thanks for the ways that they recognized that "the home of God is among mortals" (Revelation 2:3).  Rev. Susan's sermon Responding to God's Grace will be informed by the lectionary readings from Isaiah 25 : 6 - 9; Psalm 24; Revelation 21 : 1 - 6a and John 11 : 32 - 44.
Holy Communion will be celebrated.

November 9 – Tithing Sunday

   Using the lectionary readings from Ruth 3:1 - 5; 4:13 - 17; Psalm 111 and Mark 12:38 - 44, Rev. Susan will reflect on Claiming and Valuing What We Have Experienced in preparation for the conclusion of the Covenant Groups and in anticipation of next week's Stewardship Sunday.  In conjunction with the Covenant Groups, everyone will be asked to tithe 10% of their weekly income as a one-time gift to the church.

November 16 Stewardship Sunday

   A Path with a View is this year's Stewardship theme and will be the theme of the worship service.  Being a Vital Church will be Rev. Susan's sermon topic as she reflects on Hannah's song in 1 Samuel 1 : 4 - 20.  The other lectionary readings for this 23rd Sunday after Pentecost include lessons from Hebrews 10 : 11 - 25 and Mark 13 : 1 - 8.  Our financial pledges for 2004 will be received during the worship service.

November 23 – Thanksgiving Sunday

   Pastor George Walters-Sleyon will bring a message of thanks as we celebrate Thanksgiving Sunday.  Lectionary readings are from Joel 2 : 21 - 27; Psalm 12 and Matthew 6 : 25 - 33.  The Children's Choir will join with the Senior Choir in a Thanksgiving anthem.  Remember to bring your nonperishable food items for the Roxbury Food Pantry.

November 30 – First Sunday of Advent

   We will usher in the Advent season by lighting the first candle on our advent wreath, the Candle of Hope.  Readings from Psalm 25 : 1 - 10, 1 Thessalonians 3 : 9 - 13 and Luke 21 : 25 - 36 will inform Rev. Susan's sermon Advent - A TIme of Waiting.  John Kramer will present Pinkham's variations on O Come, O Come Emmanuel.
