Report on LUMC Yard and Bake Sale

The annual LUMC yard and bake sale was held on October 13 and the event was a big success once again this year, due to the participation of many people. A variety of tables were set up in Martin Hall for the sale (for yard sale items, jewelry, toys, baked goods, furniture, and clothing) and breakfast and lunch were served.  Through all of these efforts combined, $1100 was raised for the church.

I want to extend my thanks to all the people who worked so hard to make this a fun and successful fund-raising and community event. Alan Wood once again made the soups that were served for lunch this year and generally organized the kitchen. Dottie Hewitt and Cherie Robinson worked with Al in the kitchen, serving coffee, bagels, soup, and sandwiches. The bake sale team (Alma Aalerud, Alma Anderson, Ione Garing, and Mary Driscoll) did another great job and was sold out by the end of the day. Whit and Chick Doe donated a large quantity of their fresh orchard apples, which were sold at the bake sale table. Liz Kleiman and Smoki Fraser once again ran a fantastic jewelry sale. Brian Johnston, despite his broken collarbone, supervised the toy table with much assistance from the middle school youth. Jean Santelmann covered the furniture and clothing sale in the hall. Jim Hogan obtained and delivered a large donation of goods that were added to the church sale. Eric Shank and Keith Herndon collected and counted the money at the end of the day.  Thank you, all, for making everything go smoothly. Cleanup was a breeze, with everyone pitching in to clear out any remaining items and put the hall back in order.

Thanks also to those who brought in their own yard sale items and hosted a table at the sale: Susan Morrison, Ken and Louise Kreutziger, the Phelan and Fahey families, Betty Lehr, Bob and Linda Rings, and Susan Hollis along with “moving” contributions from the Hales and the Balls. And thanks as well to those who donated clothing, furniture, toys, baked goods, or other items.  Finally, thanks to David Babbidge for helping me with the set-up and signs.  It was a great experience for me to work with so many people in the church.

Sincerely,
Janice Herndon
