Help Our Website!
We're collecting paper pictures of church life for the Church's web site.
Please give them to me (Rainer von
Saleski), or put them in the Communications mailbox in the church
hallway, along with a note describing what the pictures represent, and
your name. I will scan them and return them to you a week later. Thanks
for your help.
Do you write articles for the Church Newsletter? When you email
them to the Church Office (office@lexumc.org),
please send me a carbon copy (rainer@vonsaleski.com).
Your article will appear on the web site much sooner that way! In
fact, you don't even have to wait for the monthly newsletter -- just send
them to me whenever you finish
them, and I'll do my best to get them posted here promptly. |

Stewardship
The 2001 LUMC stewardship campaign theme is Together We Grow, One Step
at a Time and the accompanying scripture is from 1 Peter 4:10,
“As each has received a gift,
employ it for one another,
as good stewards of God’s varied
grace.”
The Stewardship Committee met on September 24th to plan this year’s
campaign. The committee has chosen to use a new program that we’re confident
will yield excellent pledge results. You will be learning more about the
program in the coming weeks. Stewardship
Sunday will be November 11th with a celebratory brunch in Martin Hall to
follow the worship service, so please mark the date on
your calendars. Members of the 2001 stewardship committee are Betty Hunt,
Ben Beckwith, Rev. Susan, Kent Harbaugh, Mary Driscoll, David Kramer, and
Dale Brunelle. Please join with us to further support the faith, justice,
and works of the LUMC mission and ministries through your generous gifts
and pledges. |

Love, buy the gift written on the heart, and return the gift to the church
by Nov. 25. Watch the ornaments fill up on the "Tree of Love" poster at
the front of the sanctuary as your gifts come in. |

From the Music Director
I am very excited to be composing an anthem or the 50th Anniversary of
the Lexington United Methodist Church. As part of my preparation, I am
currently looking for textual resources to use. I would like to invite
the congregation into this process. Please submit to me some Bible texts
that are most meaningful to you. You might also give me other inspiring
words. While I cannot promise that I will use all the entries, I will work
everyone’s inspiration into my music. Thank you in advance for your help
with this anthem.

Lighting a Candle for Peace
As a practice of mindfulness and prayer for a peaceful, non-violent
resolution to the conflict that permeates our world today, please light
a candle in a window of your home. The candle is intended to be a visible
symbol of our hope for peace, our love for our nation, our compassion for
the victims, and our commitment to being faithful disciples in difficult
times. Let us light the candle daily as long as the current conflict persists. |
Lexington Food Pantry
Your Opportunity to Volunteer!
For eleven years members of the congregation have participated with
individuals of other faiths at the Lexington Food Pantry. Our assignment
is to help set up and distribute food on the fourth Saturday of each month
in this immediate effort to make a difference. Four volunteer
workers are needed beginning in November. The sign-up sheet is on the Outreach
Bulletin Board or you may call Ione Garing at 781-862-7592. Two hours of
your time on a Saturday morning will be well spent in this ongoing Outreach
of
our Church. |
Concert
at Morse School
November 30
On Friday, November 30th, the Morse School Eagle Chorus will perform a
concert of secular songs of hope and unity for these trying times. The
chorus has 21 members from grades 1-5 and is under the direction of Linda
Rings. Jane Hogan is the accompanist and Linda Kramer has joined as the
back-up accompanist. Donations will be accepted at the door and all money
collected will be sent to a school in New York City which was severely
impacted by the events of September 11. Two children who were students
at the Morse for several years, just moved to the heart of the impact zone.
Our children are excited about being able to use their talents to help
a friend. The concert will begin at 7:00 pm in the Morse School Auditorium
at 40 Granite Street, Cambridge. There is limited parking in the lot behind
the school. Please come and support this effort. |
