| Bill Santelmann, vice-chair of our Outreach Committee, has compiled a
list of political addresses, phone and fax numbers, and e-mail and web addresses
at the request of the Outreach Committee, under the title of LUMC-ACT. It
is intended to serve the LUMC community in facilitating communication with
our elected and appointed political officials. The e-mail and web addresses
are active hyperlinks to simplify quick e-mail messages.
LUMC-ACT is the idea of Bob Miner, as quoted in this section of the Outreach committee's meeting notes for September 4, 2001: Bob presented an idea to facilitate communication by church members with elected politicians in Congress and the Executive Branch by creating a list of their e-mail addresses. A similar list could also be prepared for state politicians, and both could be added as a supplement to the LUMC directory. Further, we could invite members of the congregation to register their willingness to participate actively in lobbying for justice causes by e-mail. The Outreach Committee could activate this group, possibly called “LUMC ACT”, to send e-mail messages on urgent matters by sending to all group members information identifying the issue and its key points along with a sample letter and suggested recipients. The sample letter could be used as it stands, or very easily personalized as desired without retyping all of it, and sent to every politician involved. Quoting Bob, “You hit one key on your email and 30 of us become a real lobbying group to promote social justice causes.” |
