Our Vision, Mission, and Goals

Our Vision
Everyone Included ~ Everyone In Service
As a Christ-centered, growing community of diverse people united by God's love, the world is our parish. We invite others to join in service. Transformed by God's love, we bring that love into the world to make it a place of peace and justice.

Our Mission
We are an inclusive and nurturing Christian community seeking God's call in our lives. In response to God's gift of grace, we strive to make our faith relevant through worship, spiritual growth, education and outreach in order to manifest the love of God and neighbor.

Our Reconciling Intention
All persons are individuals of sacred worth. We affirm Jesus' example of love without reservation and covenant to deal compassionately and justly with each other. Therefore, this inclusive and nurturing community of faith will continue to welcome all persons of any age, gender, race, ethnic origin, economic reality, family status, sexual orientation, diverse ability or social standing as full participants in the life and work of this reconciling congregation.

Critical Issues and Goals

Growth

Goal 1: We make disciples for Jesus Christ, sharing with others how LUMC  responds to God's call, and inviting them to join with us.  Of special concern are those living in adjoining communities, where there is no UMC: Bedford, Billerica, Burlington, Concord, Lincoln and Hanscom AFB.

Goal 2: We enhance our diversity by welcoming all.  Diversity affords a richer perspective on life, especially social justice issues.

Goal 3: We become intentional about including young, single adults.

Radical Discipleship

Goal 1: Recognizing that various members have differing Christian theological perspectives, we support this diversity and provide bridges to enable us to live as a family.

Goal 2: We promote Christian practices in our daily lives and assign priorities to deal effectively with stress-filled, overwhelming demands of our lives.

Goal 3: We recognize and encourage good stewardship of time, talents, and money among the membership.

Children and Youth

Goal 1: We work to expand our children's knowledge and understanding of Christian theology, including the Bible and its place in the development of Christian traditions and community.

Goal 2: Recognizing the high priority of secular activities among young people, we build Christian community in order for them to serve.

Social Justice

Goal 1: We establish equality regardless of race, sex, sexual orientation, class, age, or any other form of elitism.

Goal 2: Recognizing the inequitable distribution of economic resources and the unjust use of economic power, we will work to establish economic justice.

Goal 3: Recognizing that nationalism leads to war, political injustice, and nuclear threat, we work to establish peace with justice.

Goal 4: Recognizing that the environment of the planet on which we live is being treated in an ecologically irresponsible manner and that innocent suffering is the logical conclusion, we work to establish environmental responsibility.

There is a more detailed explanation relating goals to action steps in our Vision (12 pages).  We will try to get a copy of that document, and make it available on this website.
