January 2002 Worship

January 6: Epiphany Sunday -- Service of Word and Table
9:20 am Worship -- We will welcome back the Rev. Richard Harding who served LUMC    from 1966 - 68.  One of our visiting pastors during our 50th Anniversary year celebration, Rev. Harding will preach from the lectionary readings from Isaiah 60: 1-6; Ephesians 3: 1-12; and Matthew 2: 1-12.  Holy Communion will be served.

January 13:  Baptism of our Lord Sunday
9:20 am Worship -- First Sunday after the Epiphany.  Using the lectionary readings from Isaiah 42: 1-9; Acts 10: 34 -43; and Matthew 3: 13-17, Rev. Susan will preach about the sacrament of baptism and will invite the congregation to "remember their baptism."

January 20: Human Relations Sunday: "Racism"*
A Seeking Peace with Justice Sunday
9:00 am Holy Communion will be served in the Library.
9:20 am  Worship -- "Do I Dare" will be Rev. Susan's sermon topic using the lectionary readings form Isaiah 49: 1-7; 1 Corinthians 1: 1-9; and John 1:29 - 42.  On this Martin Luther King weekend, we will remember his prophetic ministry and recall LUMC's commitment to integration and an inclusive church community.

January 27: Intergenerational Service
9:15 am Live Priase Music
9:30 am Worship -- "Evangelists are We" will be the theme of this service as we explore what it means to be called to discipleship.  The Gospel lesson from Matthew 4: 12 - 23 will be supported by readings from Isaiah 9:1 - 4 and 1 Corinthians 1: 10 - 18.

* Each month, during this year celebrating Lexington UMC’s 50th Anniversary, a Sunday will be dedicated to a Peace with Justice issue that has been significant in the life of our church community.
