Please accept my apologies for the delay in posting this month's materials to the website. We've had computer problems (which are almost resolved), and there have been a few communications problems as there have been staff changes at the church. We'll try to do better next month :-) We're collecting pictures of church life for the Church's web site. Thanks to Brian Johnston for the CD with his picture collection; selected photos from it will appear here shortly. Please give your photos (either paper or electronic) to me (Rainer von Saleski), or put them in the Communications mailbox in the church hallway, along with a note describing what the pictures represent, and your name. I will scan them and return them to you a week later. Thanks for your help. Do you write articles for the Church Newsletter? When you email them to the Church Office (office@lexumc.org), please send me a carbon copy (rainer@vonsaleski.com). Your article will appear on the web site much sooner that way! In fact, you don't even have to wait for the monthly newsletter -- just send them to me whenever you finish them, and I'll do my best to get them posted here promptly. |

LUMC will be dedicating a time capsule as part of the 50th anniversary
celebration. The time capsule will be buried somewhere on the church
grounds. The size of the capsule will be about 2500 cubic inches,
which means that each of the 10 groups listed below will have a space about
6" × 6" × 6". Please start thinking about what your group
may want to put in the time capsule. In December Brian Johnston will
pick a representative for each of the 10 groups.

A message was received from members of the Christian Peacemaking Team in Hebron, inviting our solidarity with them and the families they serve in the West Bank. We are invited to fast in solidarity with our Muslim friends, and in particular, our partner family, the Abu Maria family, in Beit Ummar, during the month of Ramadan, November 17th to December 16th. The month of Ramadan is traditionally set aside for atonement for sins, repentance, and a heightened awareness of dependence on God. Will you join me on Wednesdays and consider fasting at a level that seems appropriate to you from sunrise to sunset? It is a small but genuine effort to be in solidarity with our global neighbors as we strive to show our depth of care and compassion in some small way. Please let me know if you will join me. |

Well done, good and faithful servants! Many interesting and clever projects helped to realize $2,500.00 as our Ten Talents were harvested! Note cards, mittens, pickles, boat rides, dinner parties, one shaved head, and Vision mugs were among the many creative ~"fun"d-raising activities. |

As the Newsletter wemt to press [about November 20th], 60 pledges had been
received for a total of $146,500. Many have been able to "step forward"
with their pledges, and 7 new pledges have been received. The Stewardship
Committee expresses sincere thanks to all who have responded to this year's
financial campaign.
We are still hoping to hear from 20 households that have pledged in past years, amd several newcomers and new members who will make new pledges. |

At the November 14th Administrative Council, the first LUMC Social Justice Endowment Committee was elected. Three members of the Outreach Committee – Ken Kreutziger, Bill Santelman, and Bob Miner -- and three members nominated by the Nominating Committee -- Al Landers, Anne Foster, and Keith Herndon -- were elected. It is the responsibility of this committtee to wisely invest the Social Justice Endowment Fund, and to recommend how the interest on this fund will be spent annually. |

Lighting a Candle for Peace As a practice of mindfulness and prayer for a peaceful, non-violent resolution to the conflict that permeates our world today, please light a candle in a window of your home. The candle is intended to be a visible symbol of our hope for peace, our love for our nation, our compassion for the victims, and our commitment to being faithful disciples in difficult times. Let us light the candle daily as long as the current conflict persists. |
